Dr. Sun's academic endeavors span from flexible electronics to neural engineering, with the focus on advanced microelectromechanical system (MEMS) technologies. Dr. Sun was a research scientist in MIT Media Lab from 2018 to 2020 and developed a flexible piezoelectric micro-device for medical applications. He was also a staff scientist from 2020 to 2021 in Northwell Healthcare and worked on the development of a novel flexible neural interface. Prior to continuing academic career in the United States, Dr. Sun was a research scientist that developed miniaturized medical devices at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research ( A*STAR), a governmental research institute in Singapore since 2010. Dr. Sun’s research work was highlighted by MIT news, and reported by national funding agencies, such as the National Science Foundation ( NSF) and the National Institutes of Health ( NIH).
Since May of 2022, Dr. Sun has become a primary investigator and has taken on two research seed grants funded by NASA WV EPSCoR and WVU. Meanwhile, he is a Co-investigator of a project sponsored by NASA WV Space Grant Consortium to develop a college course regarding MEMS technology.
